ABSORBING
HIGH ABSORPTION CAPACITY
Depending on the specification, Sugi® medical grade sponges have an absorption capacity of 1,200–2,100%.
Practice-proven: Sugi® Products and Sugi® Inside are the leaders in ophthalmic surgery, which account for 85% of cataract surgery.

HYDROPHOLIC
The Sugi® medical grade sponges of QUESTALPHA have a high affinity with aqueous solutions. The hydrophilic properties are based on the open-pored structure, the affinity of the cellulose with water, the adhesion, cohesion, and van der Waals forces. These forces enable the absorption properties to be sufficiently maintained even with small amounts of water molecules, e.g. in 70 % isopropanol.
Practice-proven: Sugi® medical grade sponges’ hydrophilic and absorbing properties are currently used effectively in eye surgery, ENT surgery, and various microsurgical procedures.
FASTER WICKING RATE BY COMPRESSION
When dry, the Sugi® medical grade sponge material can be compressed from 8 mm to ~0.7 mm. In the wet state, Sugi® shows elastic properties regarding compression. The compressed material has a faster wicking speed (absorption rate), while retaining the same absorption capacity. The QUESTALPHA service team supports its customers in determining the appropriate compression ratio.
